TUM Boring Wins in Texas – Powered by KRINNER Ground Screws
TUM Boring Wins in Texas – Powered by KRINNER Ground Screws
The Idea Behind TUM Boring
Elon Musk’s vision of revolutionizing transportation through the Hyperloop brought together brilliant minds from around the globe. In response, the “Not-a-Boring Competition” was launched – aiming to make tunnel construction faster, cheaper, and more sustainable. The TUM Boring team rose to this challenge and developed a highly precise tunnel boring machine that not only impressed with its technology but also set new standards in efficiency.
The Competition in Texas – Where Technology Meets Passion
The competition took place in Bastrop, Texas, not far from the headquarters of Musk’s company, The Boring Company. Teams from all over the world came together to test their tunneling systems under real-world conditions. With outstanding engineering, strong team spirit, and a clear strategy, TUM Boring prevailed – securing 1st place overall. A major triumph for the team – and proof that innovation from Germany can inspire on an international level.
KRINNER Ground Screws – A Stable Foundation for Visionary Technology
A key element for success on site was the secure and rapid anchoring of the tunnel boring system. This is where KRINNER’s ground screws came into play. Instead of time-consuming concreting, the ground screws offered an immediately load-bearing, reusable, and resource-efficient solution – ideal for both temporary and permanent applications.
Advantages at a glance:
• Fast installation without excavation or waiting time
• Eco-friendly and reversible – no concrete, no soil sealing
• High load-bearing capacity even in challenging ground conditions
• Flexible use – ideal for temporary infrastructure in the competition
With these features, the ground screws were the perfect solution for the project – and a crucial factor in ensuring smooth setup of the technology on site.
Together for Progress
The partnership between TUM Boring and KRINNER demonstrates what collaboration between research, young talent, and industry can look like. When visionary ideas meet practical solutions, progress emerges – fast, sustainable, and innovative.
We congratulate the TUM Boring team on this outstanding success and are proud to have been part of this pioneering project.
